I-SENSE Research Group
In February 2002, Dr. Amditis has founded the I-SENSE group, which he is now leading. This group belongs to the Microwaves and Fiber Optics Laboratory (MFOL) which is a common lab of ICCS and NTUA. I-SENSE Group uses the infrastructure of MFOL and is carrying on the experience and its human resources from MFOL’s previous research activities which aim to continue and expand. The I-SENSE group is very active in a number of scientific and research areas with main application areas the Intelligent Transportation Systems, Virtual Environments, Assistive Technologies as well as Smart Integrated Systems & Communication. I-SENSE is involved in a number of EC and National Research Projects and has a significant presence in International Conferences and Scientific Journals. It is also involved in the organization of important events, workshops and conferences.
The I-SENSE Group of ICCS is cooperating with some of the most important Research Organizations and Industries all over Europe. Apart from Dr. Amditis, the I-SENSE group currently employs 41 researchers, 11 of which possess PhD and 5 are PhD candidates and additional support personnel (both research and technical). I-SENSE is a worldwide renown group focusing on the following research activities: Data Fusion, Intelligent Transport Systems, VR and AR applications, Human Machine Interaction, , Microwave engineering and Radar Systems, Embedded Systems, Wireless Networking Architecture, automotive platforms and systems, transport applications for safety and green driving, human factors issues and sensor development.
Dr. Amditis is the co-author of 77 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books chapter and more than 180 papers in peer reviewed conferences. At the same time he is the main author of numerous project reports and deliverables within the framework of the research projects he has participated. He has presented transport-related issues in many conferences, in special sessions and in events organised by EC or major research initiatives in Europe, while he has participated in many working groups, special committees and organizations, aiming at addressing specific issues related to ITS and transport (e.g. automation, HMI issues, sensor fusion, nomadic devices, simulation/VR/AR etc.). He has organised a number of such special sessions, events and working groups gathering together the most senior experts in the area of transport research from Europe and all over the world.
Dr. Amditis has been the initiator and a member of the supervising committee of 10 PhD theses and 20 under-graduate theses of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineers of NTUA and 1 PhD of the University of Piraeus. Seven of the PhD theses have already concluded and have provided interesting scientific results and multiple publications. He has also been teaching in various courses (communication and computer networks, communication theory etc.) in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dep. of NTUA, and the Hellenic Naval Academy for 10 years.
He is one of the founding members, former President and current member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (EuroVR) which currently has more than 50 active members as well as one of the founding members and President of the ITS Hellas (the Greek organisation for the promotion of the implementation of ITS technologies and applications in Greece) from 2012 to 2016, he is currently the Vice President.
